How to Find the Right Activity for You and Your Family

With so many different activities out there, it can be tough to know which one is right for you or your family.

What Sort of Activity or Intensity Are You Looking For?

Do you want a challenge? Do you like group or individual things? What sort of activity or intensity are you looking for? Here are a few questions to ask yourself that will help you find the perfect activity for everyone in your family.

One of the first things you should consider when trying to find the right activity for you is what sort of activity or intensity level you are looking for. Are you someone who likes a challenge, or do you prefer something a little more low-key? There is no right or wrong answer here, it all comes down to personal preference. If you’re not sure, why not try a few different things and see what you like best?

Do You Like Group or Individual Things?

Another question to ask yourself is whether you prefer group activities or individual ones. There are benefits to both, so again it comes down to personal preference. If you like working as part of a team, then group activities might be more your thing. On the other hand, if you prefer working on your own, then individual activities might suit you better.

Do you like to be competitive or not?

Some people live for competition while others prefer a more relaxed approach. Think about what you are looking for in an activity. If you like to push yourself and be competitive, then look for activities that offer leaderboards, competitions and prizes. Alternatively, if you’re not interested in being competitive then avoid these activities and instead look for those focussed more on fun and laughter.

What Are You Interested In?

Finally, another important factor to consider is what sort of things you are interested in. If you have a hobby that you’re passionate about, then finding an activity related to that could be a great way to stay motivated and have fun at the same time. For example, if you love animals then you could start walking more regularly and choose routes through the countryside on the lookout for wildlife. There are activities out there for everyone, so take some time to think about what interests you and go from there.

Asking yourself these questions will help you to find the right activity for you. There is no wrong answer, it all comes down to personal preference. If you’re not sure, try a few different things and see what you like best without any pressure to commit to one thing at the start. Remember to consider your interests when choosing an activity – if you’re enjoying yourself then you’ll stay motivated and engaged for much longer.

Getting the family involved

Living an active lifestyle is important for everyone in the family. When thinking about what activities you might choose to incorporate into your lives, it’s worth considering the above questions for each family member. As a parent or guardian you have the ability to influence and teach your children about living a healthy, active lifestyle and that’s something we and our partners want to help with.

Consider group activities that you can all get involved with, maybe even pairing up with another household so the parents can take turns if finding the time is difficult. While this will add an element of fun and familiarity, there are also other ways to encourage and teach your children about the importance of an active lifestyle. Simply taking some time after each activity to talk to them about why what they’ve just done is so good for them and making the most of the incredible natural resources we have in North Wales are two great ways to develop their awareness and understanding.  

Whatever activities you choose, talking more often about the health benefits and involving others to create friendships and communities is the best way to create lifelong habits and ensure your whole family can live a healthier, happier lifestyle.
