The Importance of Being Active

The Importance of Being Active

Being active is important for so many reasons. It helps improve our mental and physical health, it can reduce stress, and it can increase our lifespan. And yet, being active is often confused with being sporty. So what's the difference? And why does it matter? Let's take a closer look.

The Difference Between Being Active and Being Sporty

Being active means making a conscious effort to move your body on a regular basis. This can be something as simple as taking a brisk walk around the block or going for a swim. Essentially, anything that gets you moving and raises your heart rate counts as being active.

Being sporty, on the other hand, refers to participating in competitive sports. This could be anything from playing tennis to running marathons. While being sporty certainly entails being active, being active doesn’t mean you have to be sporty. In other words, you can be active without participating in competitive sports!

Why Does It Matter?

So why does this matter when you’re just looking at how you can get fit, healthy and happy? For one thing, it’s important to understand that being active does not require any special equipment or training—all you need is your body and some motivation. There are no barriers.

In addition, there’s a common misconception that being active is only for athletes or people who are “in shape.” The truth is that anyone and everyone can benefit from being active. No matter your age, size, or fitness level, there are activities out there that are perfect for you. And the best part is that you don’t have to be competitive or compare yourself to others in order to reap the benefits of being active.

Being active is sometimes more inclusive than people think, and that’s a good thing! If you’re worried about a sports club not ‘accepting you’ for whatever reason, or hate the idea of ‘not making the team’ then focus your energy on being active and do what feels great for you.

Benefits of being active

There are countless benefits to being active, but here are just a few:

  • Improves mental health
  • Boosts self-esteem and confidence
  • Aids in weight loss or maintenance
  • Reduces stress levels
  • Lowers the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes
  • boosts energy levels
  • helps you sleep better

As you can see, being active is important for so many reasons. And yet it has been engineered out of our lives today. This means we need to re-introduce it to avoid living sedentary lifestyles. We’re on a mission to change this and help everyone in North Wales to become more active, healthier and happier. Remember, anything that gets you moving counts, and before you know it, you’ll be reaping all the benefits of being active.
