A summer of Fit, Fed and Read sessions with Aura Wales

‘Fit and Fed’, created by StreetGames, is a nationwide campaign that uses sport to create positive change in the lives of disadvantaged young people. The aim is to create opportunities for physical activity, and promote a healthy diet by providing healthy snacks at the end of each session.

Expanding on this, Aura colleagues added an additional library element to the sessions which focuses upon reading and creativity. Combining library and leisure activities together, the sessions ultimately aim to emphasise the importance of keeping minds, as well as bodies, healthy.

Over five weeks, the Aura team visited 8 locations across Flintshire, working with over 10 partner agencies to provide fun sessions. Over 5,400 people joined us this summer where 2,875 free meals were provided. Over 100 meals were also given to a local homeless shelter. Our brilliant volunteers also did a fantastic job and contributed 110 hours of their time.
